Clay Wall Hanging DIY // Tutorial

Hello darlings!

I am finally back to share the promised DIY tutorial some of you may have seen me mention on my Instagram.

I am in the process of trying to give my room a fresh look without actually spending a lot of money(that I don't have right now anyway!). I'm going for a feminine boho vibe so I thought these little wall hangings might do that for me.
My inspiration for this DIY was from trusty Pinterest of course! I am really happy with how mine turned out and I am excited to share how I made them with you.

What you will need:
~ air dry clay
~ a knife
~ a needle tool to poke holes with
~ circular objects to punch out the shapes
~ acrylic paint in the colour of your choice
~ jump rings (I used gold 10mm ones)
~ a tray & baking paper to work on
~ a rolling pin

Step One
Roll out some air dry clay  on the baking paper (to avoid imprinting the clay if you are woking on a textured surface) to about 3-4mm thick and punch out circles in a range of sizes.
I used a range of different circular objects from a jar to a small board games pawn to get the circles I wanted.
If you want half circles simply divide one circle in half evenly. This step all depends on your personal preference!

Step Two
Poke smallish holes in the top and bottom of each of your shapes. Make sure that they are close enough to the edge of the shape that you'll be able to get the jump ring around them easily, if that makes sense.

Step Three
Once the pieces are completely dry, it's time to paint! It took a long time for me to mix the colours I had in mind. I still didn't get exactly what I wanted but I am still happy with the results.
Be sure to get the paint inside the holes too.

Step Four
This is the fun part! Figure out how you want to arrange your pieces and then using the jumprings and some pliers link them all together.
I used gold because I prefer gold over silver but you do what you like the look of.

Step Five (optional but recommended)
I chose to add some mini tassels to complete my hangings and I really like how they turned out.
And voila, you are done!

This is the first one I made.

My second one.

I hope that this post inspired you to go and get creative and try these out. I had a lot of fun making them.
Until next time...

Garden Journal Flip Through ~ Flowering Fridays

Hello darlings!

In today's instalment of Flowering Fridays, I am flipping through my garden journal and showing you how I planned it out.

I have so many different notebooks and journals, now I have this one! But it's really fun to document the progress of a garden.

• • • •

First I have a simple title page.
I love this thin washi tape and I use it throughout my journal to add colour and section off parts of a page.

On this page, I have a little shopping list and a flower wishlist, where I write down all the flowers I want to have in my garden.
The quote is from the movie This Beautiful Fantastic (which is the perfect garden lovers movie as it is all about a garden and has many beautiful shots of flowers), that I really loved and copied in here.

Next, there is a log for this season, which is Autumn at the moment. This is where I keep track of all my activity in the garden.

These pages consist of a running list of each flower I plant, so I know what I have.
Currently, I have, Baby's Breath, Daffodils, Hyacinths, Cornflowers, Calendula, Carnations, Rudbeckia, and Foxgloves and Dahlias are starting off in a seed tray.

The following three pages are all a collage of flowery photos that I cut from magazines to create a kind of mood board or inspiration board.

This is my favourite page!

Then I just have a place where I can gather little tips and care advice for the flowers.

That's all I've got so far!

What is your favourite part of the journal? Do you like journaling (about anything)?

xoxo

Modest Dress Alteration

Hello, darlings!

I have realised in my search for modest clothing that it is simply going to take creativity! Shop here and there and make adjustments if necessary. And I am starting with this boho style maxi dress!

Today I wanted to share with you the step by step process of how I altered this dress to suit my standards and purpose.

This dress was a hand me down from my mum. It was a bit too long for me so I decided to take it up myself.

I also wasn't comfortable with how high the slit came on me, so I planned to fix that as well.

Step 1

First I laid it out on the floor and smoothed it out flat. Then I took one of my long dresses to use as a guide on how much to cut off this dress.

Step 2
I cut strips of the dress off one at a time to make sure I still had some seam allowance. To avoid the fabric fraying, I rolled the hem over twice to hide the raw edge, hence why I left some extra fabric at the end.

Step 3
This dress had a bit of an uneven hem, to begin with, and the pattern didn't match up all around it so folding and pinning the hem was a little tricky. But with patience (which to be honest I don't have a lot of!) and the help of a hot iron, I got it all neatly folded and pressed ready for sewing!

Step 4
Then I just sewed as straight as possible allllll the way along the bottom of the dress.

Step 5
After that, I hand sewing the tails in and secured them with a knot!

Step 6
To fix up the slit, all I did was put both edged of the fabric together and sewed down a little way.

Here it is shown after I sewed and ironed it flat. Lastly, I stitched in the tails, and voila, it was finished!

Before & After
I am super happy with how it turned out and now I can't wait for Spring and Summer to wear it.
Maybe I'll try to make a cooler weather outfit with it though.

Here is the now smaller slit up the front.

I hope this post might give you inspiration for your clothes!

Let me know in the comments if you like wearing dresses or are more of a jeans type?
Personally, I like the comfort of jeans(especially in the colder months) but I love the feminine feel that dresses and skirts give.
