7 Indoor Plants I Want To Own

Recently my sister and I have been obsessing over gardening and plants, poring over the plant section at the library and perusing the local nurseries.

While the weather was still warm, we spent time outdoors in our gardens, but now as it is colder, I have been thinking about growing my indoor plant collection.

Having a vase of flowers or a living plant in your space really does add life to it. It feels fresher and happier.

There are also health benefits to having certain plants in your space. Many plants clean the air around us, making it better for us to breathe.

These are a few of the plants I hope to add to my current few!

I don't know what it is about this one that I love! It is just a really cool looking plant, with its big shiny leaves. I am not sure where I would put this one if I got one but I'm sure I can find somewhere.
Fiddle's make a statement in any room.

My sister doesn't share my opinions about this plant! I think it is very interesting. 

This plant is also known as mother-in-law's tongue which I think is so funny. It thrives in low light and can basically be neglected.
Since I have more space in my bathroom than in my bedroom I would probably put a snake plant in there. But these plants help with better sleep quality so maybe in my bedroom would better!

If you are lacking floor space but you still want plants, a trailing plant that you can hang from the ceiling is the answer!

This one just has the cutest name and leaves! The heart-shaped leaves are what it is named after.

It is simply lovely and would look so good hanging up with its tendrils trailing down.

The pothos plant is another beautiful trailing plant that is perfect to put in a hanging planter.

There are many different varieties, some with stunning variegated leaves and white patches. This plant can thrive in full light to low light conditions and should not be overwatered.

I can't get over how gorgeous this little plant is! I mean look at those stripes, no wonder it's called a watermelon peperomia.

There are many different varieties of peperomia but this is m favourite looking one so far. This plant (along with most of the ones I have included in this list are quite on trend right now too. But that doesn't mean I chose them because of that.)

I adore violets, and this type is no exception! The African violet is a cute compact plant with these beautiful deep purple flowers.

I can just imagine having one of these in a cute little pot perched somewhere in my room.

This plant, also known as Pilea peperomioides, is so cute! I love the round plain green leaves with just a tiny dot of white.

It's such a simple plant but I think its lovely. The pilea needs more watering during the Summer months.

My list will probably grow in the future but for now, these are all I have.

Flowery Books ~ Flowering Fridays

I was at a loss for what to post today for Flowering Fridays, and then I decided to chat a bit about some of my favourite flowery books I've found.

As a photographer myself, one thing that attracts me to a book is stunning images. And these books all fit that requirement!

The Cut Flower Garden by Erin Benzakein

My sister and I can't stop flipping through this one and staring at all the gorgeous photos of many types of flower. We want to save up together and buy it!
Along with the stunning pictures, Erin has also provided a ton of tips and information on growing, caring and harvesting the rewards of your flower garden. There are vase life tips as well so you can get the most out of all your blooms!

Dahlias: Beautiful Varieties for Home & Garden by Naomi Slade

This one is also absolutely stunning. The photos are by Georgianna Lane who is a super talented photographer. She brings out the best in the dahlias of this book.
Dahlias are becoming one of my favourite flowers and this book is full of so many varieties I was adding a bunch to my wishlist.

I would love to have this one in my garden!

The Cut Flower Patch: Grow your own cut flowers all year round by Louise Curley

This one is a bit more of an information resource and less of a coffee table flipping through book.
It takes you through some flowers you can plant, how to get started in making your garden and some inspiration for arranging your blooms once picked.

I love all of these books and I hope to add them to my personal collection someday (these are library copies).

Garden Journal Flip Through ~ Flowering Fridays

Hello darlings!

In today's instalment of Flowering Fridays, I am flipping through my garden journal and showing you how I planned it out.

I have so many different notebooks and journals, now I have this one! But it's really fun to document the progress of a garden.

First I have a simple title page.

I love this thin washi tape and I use it throughout my journal to add colour and section off parts of a page.

On this page, I have a little shopping list and a flower wishlist, where I write down all the flowers I want to have in my garden.

The quote is from the movie This Beautiful Fantastic (which is the perfect garden lovers movie as it is all about a garden and has many beautiful shots of flowers), that I really loved and copied in here.

Next, there is a log for this season, which is Autumn at the moment. This is where I keep track of all my activity in the garden. 

These pages consist of a running list of each flower I plant, so I know what I have. 

Currently, I have, Baby's Breath, Daffodils, Hyacinths, Cornflowers, Calendula, Carnations, Rudbeckia, and Foxgloves and Dahlias are starting off in a seed tray.

The following three pages are all a collage of flowery photos that I cut from magazines to create a kind of mood board or inspiration board.

This is my favourite page!

Then I just have a place where I can gather little tips and care advice for the flowers.

Garden Center Haul ~ Flowering Fridays

The sunset as we drove back home was stunning!

Hello darlings!

This is the beginning of a new series here on this blog and on my Instagram @joy_and_wildflowers, where I share with you all thing flowery and the progress of my cut flower patch, and also live up to the name of this blog!

This afternoon, my sister and I visited a local garden centre to pick up some goodies for our gardens in progress.

My garden is and will be a cut flower patch, which means I am growing these flowers for the purpose of being picked and made into flower arrangements.

So without further ado, here's what I got!

Carnations were on my flower wishlist and so I was delighted to find this gorgeous pink mix this afternoon.

These flowers last a long time after they are cut and so they make great cut flowers. They have become symbolic of a mother's love and of Mother's Day. 

Carnations grow full, big blooms on strong, straight stems and I am so excited to have these beauties in my little patch!

Foxgloves make me think of a pretty little cottage garden and when I saw them in the shop today, I decided to add them to my collection. I will be starting them off in a seed tray before planting them into my garden once they are seedlings.
I love the colour pallet of this seed mix and I can't wait to pick armfuls of these stunning blooms.
It's wonderful how much diversity there is among the flower types! Our God was sure creative when He made them all!

Dahlias came up on my wishlist almost instantly. They vary in shape, size and colour and are truly a must-have in a cut flower garden. The dahlia is actually named after Swedish 18th-century botanist Anders Dahl. These I will also be starting off in a seed tray.
I think this variety is so beautiful, and the name 'Pom-pon' suits it well.

Black Eyed Susans are so simple yet I think they are gorgeous.
Ultimately I would love to lie around in a field of the happy blooms but a small clump will suffice.
Flowers alone make me happy, but flowers in a happy yellow hue are even more cheerful!

I also bought a great little wooden handled trowel that is beautifully made and I can't wait to get years of use out of!
